Active investment

Active investment refers to a strategy where an investor (usually a fund manager) makes active decisions about what investments to buy, sell, or hold and how to blend them to create an optimum portfolio. These assets may include equities, bonds, cash, commodities and alternatives. It is distinct from passive investment, where a benchmark, such as the S&P500 or FTSE 100 Index, is replicated.
